What's going on this week...6/8-6/9
Welcome back! On Thursday we will be working on Cells Review Packet in class. What students do not finish in class will become homework and will be graded in class on FRIDAY, we will also be grading the Chemistry Review packet (before track out) in class on Friday as well. 5/8-5/11 Have a Happy Track Out! This week we will be working on review packets with a major focus on reviewing our Chemistry unit. Over track-out: Students should look over their released test that has been passed back (please make sure the evaluation sheet is signed and returned, but there is no assignment over track out. 4/24-5/5 I am so sorry about not posting last week, but here is a run-down about what we did... We finished up their Science Released Test and then we reviewed about Ecology. This week: As we review the Hydrosphere, students are being asked to complete a project about Antarctica that is due on Wednesday. We will be starting a video "Secrets Beneath the Ice" on Thursday and Friday with a video sheet. Results and Analysis Sheets from the released test will be coming out this week (I had some students who needed a little more time to complete it, which is why they have not gotten this sheet yet...) Due: Antarctica Project (Wednesday) Video Sheet for Secrets Beneath the Ice (Friday) Analysis Sheet from Released test WITH PARENT SIGNATURE (Friday) 4/17-4/21 This week students will be taking the NC Grade 8 Science Released Test. This will take 2-3 days depending on how quickly students finish. Students will get results and they will complete an evaluation of their skills (parents please sign this sheet) Due: Parent Signed, EOG Evaluation Sheet (Friday) 4/10-4/13 We do not have school on Friday. This week we are finishing up our Evolution Project and then reviewing our year for a cumulative test next week. The cumulative test will take 2- 3 class periods. I passed back the test on Monday, and students who scored below a 70%, may make test corrections with a parent signature on the pre-approved sheet for a score of 70%. Due: Evolution Project (Wednesday) Test Corrections to Disease, Biotech, and Evolution test (Monday, 4/17) 4/3-4/7 This week we will be focusing on Biological Evolution. Saturday, students watched a video, "Fearless Planet", and completed the video. Students that were present need to complete this worksheet and turn in. If your student missed school on Saturday, then they will need to watch the video and complete the worksheet by Monday (4/10). We will be taking notes on biological evolution on Monday and Tuesday, and then for the rest of the week we will begin working on a project that is currently due for next week Tuesday. Due: "Fearless Planet" Video Sheet (Tuesday for students here on Saturday, by Monday for those who were absent) 3/27-4/1 We do have school on Saturday 4/1. This week we are working on mixed review in preparation for their test on Friday, which includes questions from our unit on Diseases, Biotechnology, and Geologic Evolution. Due: - EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY: go to myenergykit.org and register for a FREE energy saving kit for your home. You must print out the confirmation page, or show me a picture of your confirmation to receive credit. - Saturday will be the last day to turn in the following assignments to receive credit. After this day, grades will go in as a 50 and will not be changed. *Ecological Footprint, *Energy Book, *Evolution Chain, *Plate Tectonics Scavenger Hunt, *Law of Superposition Packet (activity completed with a sub) - Geologic Evolution Study Guide, Diseases Study Guide, and Biotechnology Study Guide (Day of test: Friday) - Students are receiving full class time to work on these study guides, and should be on the pace of completing one study guide a day. Further instructions are located on the front of their study guides. - Test (Friday) 3/20-3/24 This week we will be taking notes on how the Earth has changed over time. Click on the file for the video that we took notes on Tuesday. Due:
- Evolution Chain (Monday) - Plate Tectonics Scavenger Hunt (Tuesday) - No Science Article 3/13- 3/17 This week we are moving ahead with starting our Evolution unit. This week we are talking more specifically about how fossils give proof for Evolution. (Please note, that if this theory interferes with your religious beliefs, please understand that I am just presenting the information) Due: - Ecological Footprint (Monday) - Energy Book (Wednesday) - No science article 3/6 - 3/10 This week students are making an energy "textbook" to give to 6th graders. Students will be given all week in class to work on this project, until Friday. Students will need to complete the "Ecological Footprint Quiz" and activities at home.
